Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF)

Platelet concentrates have been utilized in medicine for over 3 decades, owing to their ability to secrete growth factors rapidly.  They have gained tremendous momentum as a regenerative agent derived from whole natural blood that stimulates tissue regeneration in many fields.

Many years ago, it was proposed that by concentrating platelets utilizing a centrifugation device, a super-dose of natural growth factors could be used in surgical sites to promote local wound healing.  Today, it has been scientifically proven that platelet concentrates act as a potent wound healing modality capable of:

  • Speeding the revascularization of tissues (angiogenesis)
  • Acting as a potent recruitment agent of various cells including stem cells (chemotaxis)
  • Inducing the prompt multiplication of different cell types found in the human body (proliferation).

Numerous scientific articles from multiple fields of medicine have now demonstrated their ability to support the regenerative process of several cell types and tissues.

How long does the procedure last?

The entire procedure may take anout 15 minutes.  Overall, the spin cycles vary from 3-8 minutes, depending on the protocol utilized.  Ask your doctor if you have questions.

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure is virtually painless and relies on a simple blood draw utilized in everyday blood labs.  In fact, it has scientifically been shown that when PRF is added to regenerative pprocedures, a significant decrease in post-operative pain, chance of infection, and complication rate are all decreased when PRF is utilized.

How does Bio-PRF stimulate wound healing?

When tissues are required to heal, they need certain protenis and growth factors that stimulate healing.  These are naturally found in teh human body.  The Bio-PRF method produces up to 6-8 times more platelets and leukocytes when compared to whole blood. That means more growth factors, more ways to fight infections, and reducing post-op pain naturally.

Where PRF can be used:

  • General wound healing
  • Injury treatment
  • Facial aesthetics
  • Dental procedures

Advantages from using PRF:

  • Less side effects when compared to other treatment options
  • Minimally invasive
  • Speeds up and promotes healing
  • Maximizes tissue regeneration
  • Minimizes recovery time
  • Reduces the chance of infection
  • No chemical additives
  • 100% autologous

THIS IS THE TREATMENT OF CHOICE FOR EVERYONE-NO LONGER RESERVED FOR PROFESSINAL ATHLETES AND CELEBRITIES.

PRF can also be used to rejuvenate skin that has been damaged due to the rigors of aging and overexposure to sun and other chemicals.  Once PRF is injected back into teh damaged areas of teh body, it participates in a number of biological events that help stimulate revascularization of teh skin, as well as improves the recruitment and production of new cells to replace old/damaged tissue.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons: The experts in face, mouth and jaw surgery

What is an OMS?
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the experts in face, mouth and jaw surgery.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the only dental specialists recognized by the American Dental Association who are surgically trained in a hospital-based residency program for a minimum of four years. They train alongside medical residents in internal medicine, general surgery and anesthesiology, and spend time in otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), plastic surgery, emergency medicine and other specialty areas. This training focuses almost completely on the bone, skin and muscle of the face, mouth and jaw. Oral and facial surgeons have knowledge and expertise that uniquely qualifies them to diagnose and treat a number of functional and esthetic conditions in this anatomical area.
